Today was one of those sub-par parenting days. You know the kind – breakfast was a bowl of cold, surgery cereal and lunch ended up being left over pizza (because, why would we let that go to waste?!) We may or may not have ended up watching more TV than normal, too. But, it’s a cold, rainy day in July (yes, I said July) so we will do the best we can.
However, there was one bright spot to our otherwise dreary day. My kids (and all their lack of nutrients) were so excited when I suggested a smoothie so we could try to put a little balance in their day as far as health goes. Mom-guilt was creeping up by not preparing 3 square meals a day for my loves, so out came the blender.
My kids were practically squealing when I brought out the Kura Nutrition Smoothie Protein Powder and the fruits and veggies. They love this stuff and know it tastes good. Not only does Kura powder have 14 grams of New Zealand sourced dairy (which has been the gold standard for a long time since the cows are grass-fed, free-range and non-GMO!) but it also is packed full of vitamins and minerals – 26 to be exact, 5 grams of fiber, prebiotics and probiotics, and has 4 times the Omega 3’s found in salmon! With all of that packed into one tiny little scoop, it’s a win/win. Plus, I have a much easier time getting my kids to drink a smoothie than eating a piece of fish, hands down!
To start our prep, I added about 3/4 cup of milk to the blender. Then we added blueberries, strawberries, one full banana, spinach, a dash of 100% juice and a scoop of the Vanilla Kura Protein Powder. There are so many options you can make with these smoothies. Kura comes in Vanilla, Berry or Chocolate. My kids are dying to try the chocolate and I’m thinking mixing that with peanut butter and bananas will be delish. The berry is perfect to add more berries to and the vanilla is so versatile, you can make it however you want. Kura has some great recipes on their website for new ideas.
My kids usually fight over who gets to push the button on our ancient blender, but today they shared the job. They love watching everything swirl around inside. I divided it out between our three cups and they drank it until their hearts content. What they didn’t see going in their little bodies is the best part. I never can get them to eat spinach, and they often have a love/hate relationship with bananas and sometimes blueberries. With all those vitamins and minerals, they literally did not ask for a snack today!
As an added bonus, here’s a tip I love :: make a smoothie and then freeze it into popsicles for a perfect summer treat! You can rest easy knowing Kura has no added preservatives, artificial sweeteners, flavors or colors and has no added sugar!
While I can tell you all day how much my kids and I love this protein powder, you might not be satisfied until you try it yourself. It is available locally at Akins, Sprouts, Whole Foods or you can shop online at Amazon.com. It’s such an easy way to get the “good stuff” into your kids. You’ll be asking yourself why you haven’t tried Kura Nutrition sooner.
