{OKC Spotlight} McBride Foundation

SPOTLIGHT

At Oklahoma City Moms Blog we feel there are incredible not-for-profit organizations and resources right here in our community. They support different needs of OKC families, mothers, and children and we’d like to help spread the word about them.  Here is a little bit more information about one of these organizations:: McBride Foundation.

As parents and moms we do all sorts of research on car seats and safety devices for our children. I remember putting my daughter in her car seat and driving home from the hospital. Nervous that I was actually responsible for this baby and worried sick we would get in a wreck; that she would get hurt.

Fast forward, and now my child is in school where she’s playing on the playground, sports field and other equipment. Imagine your child who you have protected with the best car seats and safety devices getting hurt because the equipment at his/her school was out of date, wrong size or they were the one without a helmet because there wasn’t enough to go around. Many schools throughout Oklahoma don’t have the proper equipment because they lack the resources. The Mc Bride Foundation, is a small public non-profit which awards grants to unprivileged schools in Oklahoma so they may purchase sports and first aid equipment. We want to keep our youth athletes safe. In the event they do get hurt, we also want the schools to have first aid equipment to tend to them.

To date, we have awarded grants and equipment to 40 school districts in 26 counties across the state. Through our free Preserve Program, we conduct seminars to teach youth athletes, parents, coaches and the community how to prevent injury. We would not be able to provide these services if it weren’t for the generosity of Oklahomans through our two fundraisers. One is a 5k/1 mile fun walk and the other is a golf tournament.
