I am originally from northeast Oklahoma. I attended college at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. After graduating I moved to the Tulsa area for a short time. I couldn’t stay away though. I have been back in Oklahoma City for a good 9 years now. I am a working wife and mom to my 2 year old daughter, 4 year old son, and our 2 mini dachshunds. We try to live simply and happily. Our home is full of playing, laughing, cooking, eating, swimming, praying, gardening, reading, napping, and hugging puppies.

1. What is the most random thing in your purse right now?
Um a smaller purse . . .  I know that’s weird. I got a big, beautiful Coach purse as a gift from my sister. I LOVE IT, but sometimes when I am going in somewhere with the kids or have a lot to carry I’ll throw my wallet, keys, and sunglasses in the smaller purse.
2. Who is your favorite TV mom?
Not just because it’s timely right now but my favorite TV mom is Lorelei Gilmore.  She’s funny, smart, puts her kid first. I bet if she knew me we would be good friends, and we would have crazy meals and coffee together all the time.
3. Favorite thing to do with your children in Oklahoma City?
I love taking my kids to the park at Lake Stanley Draper, the big one by the marina. There are several big toys with the lake as a backdrop and lots of shade.  We also love the kids library at Norman Central.
4. What are you most passionate about outside of motherhood?
I enjoy cooking and gardening. I think because I work at a desk all day in an office I like to come home and create things with my hands.

Lauren

Lauren

Lauren Nelson resides in Midwest City with her husband and two bubbly and adorable children. She is an avid bibliophile, a lover of words, and an aspiring writer with a BA in English Lit. Her family spends their time laughing, praying, and exploring Oklahoma City together. She loves to run and workout and in her spare time does a lot of reading, writing, and training to run competitively. Aside from books and her family, Lauren is a Doula and is working on developing her own childbirth education curriculum. Beyond this she is passionate about unity among women of all ages and contributing to an attitude of sharing and community within her world. Her favorite quote is “We have no peace because we have forgotten that we belong to one another.” ~Mother Teresa.
1. What is the most random thing in your purse right now?
I just cleaned out my “backpack” (the thing you carry when you can’t keep track of a purse and a kid bag) but about a month ago there was a TV remote in there! My son was definitely the perpetrator of that odd deed.

2. Who is your favorite TV mom?
So I know it’s crazy but Claire Huxtable. Seriously. She was gorgeous, classy, calm, ambitious, but always full of wisdom and intuition. Her smile was just so BENEVOLENT. I always felt safe when she walked into the room/tv/scene.

3. Favorite thing to do with your children in Oklahoma City?
Art. Anything art. Painting. Clay. My little girl lives and breathes artistic creation and so we traipse everywhere looking for adventures and expressive outlets for her.
4. What are you most passionate about outside of motherhood?
I am passionate about women telling our stories to each other. I believe that telling our stories, good and bad, is the antidote to sanctimonious and judgmental attitudes. All women need the healing of being able to hear and be heard. In my lifetime I hope to create many “circles” of women who will do just this both through my writing and in my professional endeavors as a birthworker.

Amie

Amie1Amie, who is originally from Denver, has lived in seven states and three countries. She currently calls Edmond home and is a proud mom of 2 young boys and a proud military wife. After receiving her B.A. in English, Amie worked in many different fields trying to find her niche. As it turns out, being a stay-at-home mom is the best job she never knew she wanted. She is passionate about fitness, healthy living, and music. She finds joy in helping other moms connect in community, and strongly believes we were not meant to journey though motherhood alone. Amie still enjoys traveling and is looking forward to when her boys are older so she can show them the world.

1. What is the most random thing in your purse right now?

Burn Cream. I burned myself pretty badly while working in a cafe in college and had to work the rest of my shift in pain with a nasty burn. I’ve carried burn cream in my purse ever since!

2. Who is your favorite TV mom?
Claire Dunphey from Modern Family and DJ Tanner from Fuller House
3. Favorite thing to do with your children in Oklahoma City?
Anything that ignites joy and wonder in their eyes. Currently that’s the zoo, science museum, and seeing the murals of “moo” cows in the dairy section of the grocery store.
4. What are you most passionate about outside of motherhood?
Fitness, healthy living, music, and helping other moms connect in community.
