“Dine and Donate” to Help Louisiana Flood Victims

0

One morning, I was on Facebook and I started seeing the photos. Photos of major flooding.  Pictures of people in boats trolling carefully around homes, water tipping the tops of vehicles, the faces of the people in Baton Rouge…I couldn’t get the looks on those faces out of my head.  The nightmare some were living in Louisiana from the floodwaters is one I couldn’t fully grasp.

As the days went on, some who I knew personally were posting pictures of their houses. The waters were receding but their houses were a total loss.  Furniture, memories – their lives were floating in what they had called home.  I saw pictures of diplomas and pictures laying out to dry, piles on curbs (which were finally visible) of all the damage.  And I tried to imagine what it would have been like if that had happened to me. How scared I would be of what was next.  Finding a temporary place to stay, navigating insurance calls and claims, and helping my kids understand what had just happened. Those would all be things I would be worried about.  My heart went out to them all.

Oklahomans know devastation in the form of tornadoes, but the end result is the same.  Regroup and rebuild.  So we at OKC Moms Blog wanted to do something to help and we want to encourage our entire community to do the same. Dine and Donate. It’s as simple as that.

You will be helping Louisiana flood victims simply by dining at local restaurants who have partnered with us to give a portion of their proceeds to our neighbors to the south. Invite your friends and family to share a meal together while letting the flood victims know we want to help. Starting on Friday, September 9, we have partnered with three metro restaurants that will give back a portion of their sales to United Way of Southern Louisiana. Pick a day or pick every day. We hope you will join us! See below for more details.

*Please mention that you are there participating in OKC Moms Blog Dine & Donate fundraiser.
