Jamie Shouse

I am a mom to two daughters - Avery Jane and Claire Chandler. Three dogs - Pete the chocolate Labrador, Addie the Scottish Terrier, and Pancho the Pomeranian - round out my household. And my husband, Jerrod, of course. I work part-time as an attorney. I am a transplant from Texas but have made my home in Oklahoma after completing both my undergraduate work and also my law degree at the University of Oklahoma. I love to play tennis, experience new things with my kids, and try my hand at any type of arts and crafts. I have always enjoyed writing (my undergrad minor is in English), and you can find my writings about my chaotic life at www.tortsandtots.com.

Dear Mom, I have written and re-written this letter fifty times. Somehow I don't have the words. I know you are now laughing because I never have a shortage of words. As one of the...

Keeping Her Little.

I remember the good ol' days with my kids - the days when I knew the source of almost everything they said. It may sound crazy, but when your child is home with you...

Balanced Beauty.

Since becoming a mom, my time is divided amongst a variety of priorities, as is my budget. Accordingly, I have streamlined my toiletry and cosmetic purchases. Gone are the days of making a special...

Why I Do What I Do.

The stay-at-home mom is an enigmatic creature. Often spotted wearing her workout clothes with dried sweat providing the perfect accent to her already un-coiffed locks, she runs, walks, rolls from drop-off to yoga to...

A Note of Gratitude.

During November, I spend a lot of time thinking about the good things in my life, the things I overlook on a day-to-day basis but that are always there making life better nonetheless. I...

The Holiday Wrap Up.

I know, I know. The mere fact that I am suggesting you start your holiday shopping is making some of you crazy. You can't think about it until after Thanksgiving. You need the pressure....

Confessions Of A Lazy Crafter.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I used to sit at my desk at work and daydream about all the things I would do when I was a mom and no longer...

Help Is On The Way {The Riley Group}

The other night I had a beautiful dream. I was organized, goals were accomplished, stress was minimal. But wait, it wasn't a dream. That actually happened for exactly four sublime weeks, thanks to The...

The Little Black (ahem, red) Dress: Kid Edition

As moms, we all have that versatile dress - the one we can throw on with flats (or ratty Ugg boots as the case may be) or add some jewelry and a wedge and...

I Do Believe In Mom Karma.

I feel like I have read a lot lately about the so-called "Mommy Wars," which references the one-upping and harsh judgments that occur between mothers. I don't lose much sleep about it. I assume...

The Lunch Bunch.

My daughter, Avery, is heading to kindergarten this fall. For the first time ever, she will be wholly responsible for consuming her lunch. To you, it might not sound like a big deal for...
