We at Oklahoma City Moms Blog LOVE to support local! Amy Nickerson is a designer, photographer and illustrator living and working in the OKC area. She’s been in the business of creating since she was a kid, when she’d be sitting at her desk for hours upon hours drawing. Years later (we won’t say how many), she’s still creating on a daily basis. It’s her passion, her calling and she is living her dream.
Something Amy has recently been working on are some fun watercolor paintings of animals. For this giveaway, you could get this set of prints (1-8×10 and 2-8×8’s) for FREE!!!
Some background on Amy in her own words:
“Recently, I’ve been getting back to my illustrating roots using watercolors and ink. I’ve always loved animals, patterns and fun accessories. So I fused all these awesome things in my first illustration of a wacky little owl with glasses named Ziggy. When I posted it online, I never thought the response would be so big. It was encouraging to get such positive feedback so I decided to work on other animals. Pretty soon I had a good series of illustrations, which I started calling my Mad Menagerie.
I wanted these illustrations to feel like family portraits, as if the animal went into a photography studio to get their picture taken. Each background pattern represents something to do with either the animal or the theme/culture I’ve chosen for that animal. There’s a lot of thought and research before I begin one of these illustrations, but it’s definitely a labor of love. I get to know my Mad Menagerie animals very well during the process.
I’ve also been exploring new territory with hand-lettering over the past several months. I’m a fan of quirky phrases, silly quotes and fun fonts so this has been a great avenue to explore. I can’t wait to keep improving my skills with these fun signs!
When I’m not working on projects, you’ll find me at a Zumba class shakin’ what my mama gave me. I also love to travel, make amazing salsa, attend epic concerts, drink loads of coffee, play with my adorable nephews and spend time with my awesome family and friends. I channel Betty White on a regular basis. She’s pretty much the cream of the crop.”
