It’s no news that your wardrobe says a lot about you. It’s that time of year again where you are running around more than normal. You have a variety of places to be, people to see, errands to run, and all things Holiday on your list. When was the last time you put something together for yourself or updated a few items in your closet? I know we have countless t-shirts, but when’s the last time you really went shopping for one that was new & didn’t consist of that hole in the armpit area that has been sewn numerous times? When was the last time you bought a nice quality t-shirt that was polished looking?
There is such a thing as polished, comfortable, quick, and effortless “uniforms” for the mom on the go.
Here are 3 tips and examples to inspire you.
Example 1 – The Best Mom Ever Outfit
When putting together your “uniform”, it’s best to keep it simple, polished, with a dash of fun. You have a lot of places to be as a mom on the go, but you don’t have to look like you just rolled out of bed and only had 5 minutes to do something with yourself since you had to get everyone else fed and ready before heading out the door. This is an effortless and quick outfit where you can pull your hair into a baseball cap, a ponytail, or a messy bun and still look pulled together. Boyfriend jeans look great on any size or shaped woman, you just need to take the time to try on a few different brands and styles at various places. I have found that for Tall/Lanky women, The Gap, Old Navy, The Loft, and J.Crew have a great selection. Short/Curvy women, The Loft, American Eagle, Avenue, Torrid, and The Gap have a great selection. If you are in between, any of the above stores will have something for you. It can be tricky when buying a t-shirt with a cartoon character on it. The Mickey shirt shown above is a perfect example of keeping it simple, polished, adult, and not kooky. Look for simple and monotone designs. I’d steer away from brightly colored cartoon character pieces of clothing, you are dressing yourself – not your 3 year old.
Example 2 – The Stylish Mom on the Go Outfit
Whether you are dropping the kids off, meeting a friend or your husband for lunch, going to a meeting, volunteering, etc. you can look stylish on the go. This is a super easy go-to outfit and it’s stylish at the same time. Again, this outfit works for any size or shape of woman. It’s a polished version of jeans, a sweatshirt, and tennis shoes. Look for pieces with comfort but with a polished and stylish look. Yes, I know you can throw on the $5 sweatshirt that you bought and is worn in to the point that it feels like the best blanket ever, BUT that doesn’t mean you need to wear it as your uniform. Bottom line, how people dress is related in some way to how they feel. They feel first and dress later. When we are dressed well and look good, we automatically feel better. Go buy a stylish sweatshirt, stylish jeans, and stylish comfy flats … again, it’s your polished version of sweats and tennis shoes.
Example 3 – Comfy and Polished Mom on the Go Outfit
I will admit, there are days where I am over it with style, but then I remember …when we feel good about how we are dressed we are more likely to feel good inside, have more energy and treat others better. I want to be 100% not only for myself internally, but for everyone else that I come into contact with. With that being said, sometimes I want to be as comfortable as possible and that usually means leggings/yoga pants, a soft comfy t-shirt/tunic, and a light zip up hoodie of some sort, paired with shoes that don’t require me to take them off after 2 hours. The outfit above is an example of how to still “feel” like you have your pajamas on and are cozy, but “look” polished. The Loft has done an amazing job with their Lou & Grey line of clothing. If The Loft isn’t your thing, look for similar pieces at Target, Old Navy, Ross, etc. You can put something together that suits you and your style.
I hope you make some time to go shopping for yourself and put a few uniforms together. You are worth getting “dressed up” for, even if that means keeping it polished, comfy, and quick. Who cares where you’re going, or what you’re doing, show the world how great you are in the inside, and stop hiding it under old yoga pants and stained t-shirts. Sometimes you have to dress for how you want to feel, and not how you actually feel.
