10 Things Opinionated Kids Say

I think that one of a child’s biggest milestones is when they say that long awaited first word. After time, we witness their vocabulary grow from one word to many more as they get better at expressing themselves. I eagerly awaited their sentences and words, and I loved watching them grow.

Until one day, it began.opinionated kids

The talking back and the smart answers. My 3-year-old daughter’s new favorite catch phrase these days is, “Give me a break, Mama!” She knows she shouldn’t be talking like that, however at the end of the day she is just repeating something she heard somewhere. Personally I can’t help but chuckle to myself when I think back about hearing those sassy words coming from her mouth.

On top of the sassy comebacks, I started to notice that my sweet child began judging the things I said, the way I acted, or the way I look. I know that her comments are not meant to be mean or hurtful, she is simply pointing out things that she perceives as unusual or interesting.

Since I knew I couldn’t be the only one that felt the judging and shame from my offspring, I polled a couple of other moms and here are some of their experiences as well:

1. “MOOOM! You wore that yesterday and you’re wearing it again today?!” Yep. My wardrobe is not nearly as extensive as hers is.

2. My daughter often says, “Why do you get to keep your pjs on when you take me to school?” #judged

3. My daughter calls me out when I’m not speaking to my husband “respectfully”.

4. My son had the nerve to tell his friends that he got his mustache from his mom.

5. My son said: “Mom, why do you workout everyday? You look the same to me.” I will take it as a compliment kid.

6. My child came into my room and said “Mama, why are all those clothes on the floor?” Hmm, you should look at the disaster his bedroom is.

7. The other day I woke up and didn’t shower in the morning and my daughter said “Your hair looks funny.”

8. My daughter told me the other morning that I had a hair on my chin but not to worry because she would pull it out for me.

9. My daughter once brushed all of my hair to cover the front of my face (cousin It style) and then said, “There. Better.”

10. While I was watching a movie my child said,”Mom, why are you eating all the chips?”

Do you have any other examples that you can add to the list?
